European Sustainable Practices
Sustainability has become one of the most important topics on the official European agenda. The European Union has implemented a set of policies and actions called the European Green Deal. The aim of this Green Deal is to make the European economy more sustainable and climate neutral by 2050.
The action plan also includes a Farm to Fork Strategy aimed at making food systems fairer, healthier and more environmentally friendly.
Since the agricultural sector is responsible for 9.9% of the emissions of greenhouse gases in the EU, the relationship between agriculture and climate change is clear. The agricultural sector is also particularly vulnerable to the climate change effects and, consequently, it has to face the combined challenge of mitigation and adaptation to climate change under the new climate scenarios that are expected to arise as a result of global warming.
